392 species have been recorded in Cyprus (correct as of 31st December 2010); of these around 200 occur regularly on passage making the island ideal for bird watching in spring and autumn.
Cyprus has two endemic species, Cyprus Wheater (Oenanthe cypriaca) and Cyprus Warbler (Sylvia melanothorax), both being fairly common and easily found.
In addition there are four endemic subspecies, Cyprus Scops Owl (Otus scops cyprius), Coal Tit (Parus ater cypriotes), Short-toed Treecreeper (Certhia brachydactyla dorotheae) and Jay (Garrulus glandarius glaszneri).

North Cyprus has suffered less from development than the south and offers wonderful opportunities to see birds whether being island specialities or migrants passing through to their summer or wintering areas. At the best places in the right season spectacular numbers and a huge variety of birds can be present but great birds can turn up almost anywhere at any time.
The following pages offer my photographs of birds taken in Cyprus as well as suggestions as where to go and other supplementary information.
My bird pictures can be downloaded for use elsewhere without permission by right clicking and selecting save picture as but please credit them to www.kibrisbirds.net

Obviously I don't have pictures of all the birds found in Cyprus, only those I've been lucky to see well enough to photograph. Some are better quality than others but I'm always trying to improve species shots, some are record shots only.
Most of the photographs have been taken with a Canon 400D or 550D coupled with a Canon 100-400 IS lens. Some of the older pictures were digiscoped images produced using a Swarovski AT80 scope coupled with a Nikon coolpix compact digital camera.
